With players now digging into the title, some will be looking to find the character that best suits their playstyle, but first they will need to know how to unlock the various characters. How to Unlock Artificer
The Artificer is a caster character, and you will need some Lunar Coins to unlock it — 11 Lunar Coins, to be exact. With these Coins in hand, locate one of the blue rocks that are hidden across many of Risk of Rain 2‘s stages and use one Coin to spawn the Blue Orb.
Now, find the teleporter in Risk of Rain 2 and defeat the boss, but do not enter the teleporter. Instead, you should use the blue Lunar Portal, which will take you to the Bazaar Between Realms. Here, you can give the vendor 10 Lunar Coins in exchange for unlocking the Artificer.
How to Unlock Engineer
Risk of Rain 2 is the new sequel to the indie title Risk of Rain. This new title takes the game into a new dimension, literally, going from 2D to 3D. Alongside the new look there are a number of new characters to unlock. Below I will show you how to unlock all characters in Risk of Rain 2.
Unlocking the Engineer is simple, as the character will essentially come through standard gameplay. All you need to do is clear 30 areas in Risk of Rain 2, and the Engineer is yours. How to Unlock Huntress
The Huntress is a swift bow character and is another fairly simple one to unlock. With some patience and practice, it should certainly be possible for many players to attain this character.
How to Unlock Mercenary
The Mercenary comes with a Laser Sword that many players will want to use. However, gaining access to the character, and its weapon, may take some time.
That is, unlocking Mercenary requires you to enter a Celestial Portal. At this time, the appearance of a Celestial Portal appears to be random, and players that want to earn the Mercenary will simply have to play until they encounter one.
Once inside, you just need to make your way to the monstrous obelisk. Now, interact with the object to sacrifice yourself and unlock Mercenary.
How to Unlock MUL-T
The robotic MUL-T unlocks by completing the Verified achievement. This comes by defeating the first teleporter’s boss five times, which means that you will need to make at least five runs in Risk of Rain 2 in order to obtain MUL-T.
This is the extent of the characters that can currently be unlocked in Risk of Rain 2, though there are four more in development. Fortunately for players that want to unlock all of the characters as quickly as possible in the permadeath game, the task is easy in most cases.

Commando is a balanced character that deals moderate damage. Commando's Phase Round is able to shoot through walls and its Suppressive Fire deals big damage while stalling enemy movement.

Commando is the first character / class you gain access to in the game. The moment you start playing Risk of Rain 2, you'll already have the Commando unlocked.
Huntress - Character / Class Overview
Huntress is high DPS but with low health & defense. Huntress is able to use Strafe while sprinting and Laser Glaive can hit multiple enemies for up to 6 times. Arrow Rain slows enemies while dealing AoE damage aimed at a specific area.

To unlock Huntress, you need to reach your 3rd Teleporter in Risk of Rain 2 without dying. The key here is to find the Teleporter in each stage as fast as possible while still in easier difficulty.
MUL-T - Character / Class Overview
MUL-T is a character / class that works well in both single & coop. Holding two equipment at once, it can switch between rapid fire shots or heavy-damage bullets. It can dash forward to gain armor & speed while dealing damage to enemies it hits along the way.

To gain access to MUL-T, players must have completed the first Teleporter event 5 times. This means playing through 5 different game sessions and completing the first Teleporter event every time.
Engineer - Character / Class Overview
Engineer is a character / class that requires strategic placement and timing of use of his tools. He is able to place mines to damage incoming enemies & implement a bubble shield to protect from enemy fire. His Gauss Turret provides good cover fire but must be placed in an advantageous spot.

How To Unlock Engineer
To unlock Engineer, you must complete total of 30 stages in Risk of Rain 2. You do not need to complete all 30 stages in a single playthrough. Try to go through as many stages as you can in every playthrough to get access to Engineer.
Mercenary - Character / Class Overview
The Mercenary is one of the few melee oriented character in Risk of Rain 2. Laser Sword and Whirlwind specialize in high-damage sword attacks. Eviscerate will target the closest enemy, striking them repeatedly and making you vulnerable while this skill is active.

Unlocking Mercenary requires interacting with a mysterious Obelisk found in secret area 'A Moment, Fractured'. Players must play through the stages until they encounter a Celestial Portal which spawns randomly after the teleporter sequence. Head inside to access the 'A Moment, Fractured' and find the Obelisk - interact with it to sacrifice yourself and get access to the Mercenary.
Artificer - Character / Class Overview
Artificer deals big AoE elemental damage and specializes is dealing with large groups. Flame Bolt sets enemies on fire and Charged Nano-Bomb can deal AoE damage while stunning foes. Snapfreeze can freeze enemies with low health to death while Flamethrower can incinerate groups of targets instantly.

How To Unlock Artificer
Artificer can be unlocked by spending 10 Lunar Coins (+1 Lunar Coin to access the shop) in the secret area 'Bazaar Between Time'. This area can be accessed after completing a teleporter event either randomly, or using a Lunar Coin at a Newt Altar (appearing as blue cracked rock). Within the Bazaar, you'll find the Artificer frozen next to the shopkeeper for you to set free.
