In 1984 the Baltimore Marching Colts (an NFL marching band) were abandoned by their team. In the middle of the night (literally) the then-Baltimore Colts moved to Indianapolis. Their fans and the Marching Colts were stunned. Team-less, the band continued to practice and play at events, hoping football would someday return to their city.

In 2007, EA Sports decided to discontinue Madden on computers, leaving PC gamers without a modern football title. But, like the Marching Colts, the Madden PC community played on.

EA Sports has always been strong on its games, and it takes great pride in them. Perhaps itu0027s time for a change. Madden is an upstanding title that finally has some heavy competition. Simply updating stats and making minute changes in the gameplay is no longer exceptable.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden1-1539131193443.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden1-1539131193443_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':'02','albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by Matt Casamassina</a>

If youu0027ve read through the entire review so far, youu0027re probably waiting for me to tell you which game to buy this holiday season: Madden 64 or QB Club u002798. Unfortunately, itu0027s not so plain cut. Madden 64 has the advantages of a better AI system and faster, more exciting gameplay, but QB Club u002798 truly looks like a next-generation football game and has the NFL licensing in addition to solid gameplay. Depending on what youu0027re looking for, either game is a good buy.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden2-1539131193445.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden2-1539131193445_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':'03','albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by Douglas Perry</a>

The level of realism in the sound effects are, as usual, great in this yearu0027s version. The tempo is exceptionally well paced, and when it really counts, especially if youu0027re the home team, the roar of the crowd whales away, bringing you headlong into the moment of the game.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden3-1539131193447.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden3-1539131193447_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':'04','albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by Dan Egger</a>

I was not a big fan of either Madden or QBC last year because I felt they both gave Nintendo 64 owners a sub-par football experience compared to the PlayStation. But this year the Nintendo 64 thumbs its nose at the PSX with a football game that will have those pixelated PlayStation pansies crying in their beer once they realize how good Madden 99 for the N64 is. Even though it isnu0027t perfect, itu0027s one heck of a game.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden4-1539131193448.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden4-1539131193448_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':'05','albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by Jason Bates</a>

Still, just because itu0027s not Front Page doesnu0027t mean itu0027s bad. For most gamers, the coaching and simming options will be more than enough, and when you combine them with a very solid and enjoyable game on the field, you have the best all-around football game available.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden5-1539131193448.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden5-1539131193448_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':'06','albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by Jay Boor</a>Madden 08 Pc Download Free

It seems like I say this every year, but this has to be the best Madden game, yet. Madden NFL 2000 has tons of great features, the game looks and moves a whole lot better than last yearu0027s version, itu0027s a smart purchase for those who just want a good, complete football game. I just wish the sound was a little better. Mr. Madden? Get some sleep before you do the voiceovers, you just sound so unenthused. Madden 2000 is a great game and a lot of fun to play but it doesnu0027t offer as complete a package as the superb Madden u002799, which deserved a higher score last year in my opinion. The improved running game opens up the offense and will really get you into the strategy of playing NFL football. Great additions like the Madden Challenge and the Hot Route system will give you plenty to focus on if youu0027re a diehard football fan. Itu0027s fast and great to watch but the change in the look of the players will have to grow on me. Fortunately the great A.I. is still there to keep me matching wits with the machine and thatu0027s always a good thing to have. The omission of classic teams didnu0027t bother me as much as I thought it would since theyu0027re the same teams with the same ratings as last year. In QBC 2000 you can build a custom team using some of those throwback players so thereu0027s more motivation to have them. Because Iu0027m such a fan of football sims I can be overly critical at times, but from top to bottom, Madden NFL 2000 is a fine representative of the tenth anniversary of Madden football.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden7-1539131193449.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden7-1539131193449_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':'08','albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by Jason Bates</a>

Yet even if you have the patience to wade through the unusable interface long enough to manage your team, youu0027ll only be further punished. This is not Front Page Sports: Football, itu0027s not Football Mogul, itu0027s not Front Office Football. Ultimately, Madden 2001 is a good game and a fitting end to the series on the N64. While the graphics suffer this time out, the game remains quite fun and wonu0027t disappoint the Madden fans out there. With great replay value and the ever-important current rosters, it is virtually irresistible forN64 football fans. Madden is football, and it proves it here again with a solid, tricked-out game for the new millennium.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden13-1539131193452.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden13-1539131193452_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':14,'albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by David Zdyrko</a>

There can be arguments made against Maddenu0027s superiority by gamers that prefer the style of games like NFL2K1 or NFL GameDay, but thereu0027s really no denying the gameu0027s greatness. This series is the granddaddy of virtual football and for all intents and purposes, this version of the game is the finest of the entire bunch. Itu0027s arguable that because itu0027s slower moving than the PlayStation version that itu0027s not really as good, but that would be overlooking the other aspects of the game that have been improved in the divine PS2 version of the game. Not only do the gameu0027s visuals make it more realistic looking than any other football videogame on the planet, but the gameu0027s superior physics model makes it feel much better than its ugly PlayStation cousin. The easy way to say it is that if I had a choice to take with me only one football game to a deserted island and only have that game to play for the rest of my life, it would be Madden NFL 2001 on PlayStation 2. It kicks major butt.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden14-1539131193453.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden14-1539131193453_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':15,'albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by Marc Nix</a>

But while the engine holds its own, the gameplay drops way short. Itu0027s an enjoyable game for those who just want a few ten-yard fights, but when my first full game drew up a score of 92 to 73 at the half, it just seemed a little silly. 3D6 has a good engine, but itu0027s missing some of the key features for a Madden game, particularly the passing windows and the articulate animation. Without it, this feels too much like an arcade-like offensive charge from the 8-bit era, and even for those who grew up on the incredible Genesis Madden games, this simply isnu0027t enough.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden15-1539131193454.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden15-1539131193454_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':16,'albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by NAME</a>

But even with the online play that supports scrimmages, league play and even franchise mode play, plus other extras like the ability to create a team with a custom logo and the like, the flaws in the gameplay balance and CPU will keep this from being a must-have title for PC football fans. But the 64 dollar question is which game is the best out of NFL 2K2, Madden 2002 and NFL Fever 2002. And I can only give the same answer Iu0027ve been giving: Fever and NFL 2K2 are in more direct competition with each other than with Madden 2002. Thereu0027s an obvious arcade-leaning gameplay mechanic in Fever and 2K2 that Madden just does not have. The EA game requires a play style thatu0027s been refined, learned and accepted over the years that can be pretty unforgiving to the uninitiated, but that is its charm. When I look at Madden objectively, which we try to do here, it plays a lot slower than either of the other two games, but I also see that itu0027s intentional. Madden 2002 isnu0027t going to wow you with its speed --even if youu0027re running the ball with Edgerrin James-- because youu0027re supposed to be awed by its authentic blocking and defensive AI.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden18-1539131193456.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden18-1539131193456_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':19,'albumTotalCount':74},{'caption':'Reviewed by Fran Mirabella III</a>

I get most of my kicks out of the exhibition mode. I donu0027t get into stat tracking or playing seasons. Iu0027m in it for the touchdowns, the big runs -- the glory. Even against the CPU exhibition mode is a blast because itu0027s such a great simulation of the game. Of course, itu0027s even better when your friends step up to the plate for some competition. You get angry, you exchange some unpleasant comments, and in the end you enjoy yourself even if you lose. Even if you arenu0027t a huge sports fan and enjoy playing football casually, multiplayer can make Madden NFL 2002 a worthy purchase.','height':0,'width':0,'url':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden19-1539131193456.jpg','styleUrl':'https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/10/10/madden19-1539131193456_{size}.jpg','credit':','objectRelationName':','objectRelationUrl':','albumName':'Every IGN Madden NFL Game Review Ever','relativePosition':20,'albumTotalCount':74}]'>

It's people creating a game on top of a game that's ten years old.

Thanks to the dedicated (and slightly obsessed) Football Idiot modding community, there's been an updated mod of Madden 08 every year on computers during the 11-year hiatus.

Football Idiot is a blessing for gamers like Danny Beich, who was one of the many users shunned by EA’s decision to cancel the series’ computer releases.

Madden

“I had Madden 08 and I wanted to buy the next version. Then I figured out the series was discontinued, and that lead me to find the Football Freaks website,” Beich explains.

Founded in 2004 by former user Mardagg, Football Idiot began as the modding site Football Freaks. The days of the original site are nicknamed by current members as “The Discovery Era.” These founding-users of Football Freaks were responsible for creating the first modding utilities for the game. But the founders didn't stay long. One by one the 'forefathers' disappeared from the community. The torch had to be carried on by user torontogrudlies after Football Freaks eventually shut down. He brought the community back with a new website. With that new site came a new name: Football Idiot.

Football is a team sport and, in this case, modding is too.

Visiting Football Idiot's website, it’s easy to mistake it for being closed. The site’s homepage is half-finished and most of the links on it are dead. Only after logging onto the forums are there signs of life.

The message boards are filled with active users, including members from outside of the US. The site’s main project is a yearly update: The FF/FI Mod (an abbreviation of Football Idiot and Football Freaks). Users like RevanFan have watched this mod grow since infancy.

Screenshot courtesy RevanFan.

“It started in 2008 when a bunch of members on the forum decided to get together and put their works together. Whether it's rosters, or uniforms, or other edits like that, new coaches and new players, and put them together [to] create this community-driven mod that would update the game to the current season,” RevanFan says.

My dream, essentially, was to recreate every season in Dallas Cowboys history.

“I would describe it as something you've never experienced before,” explains user Austinmario13. “It's people creating a game on top of a game that's ten years old.”

Hyperbolic? Maybe, but it’s not far off.

“The game is so full that, now, I'm looking at buying Madden 19 but we're kinda starting clean without all the expansion packs,” Beich jokes. “Now it's making me think, ‘I'm not going to have all these features that I have in the old one.”

The FF/FI mod includes what you’d expect – new rosters, enhanced graphics – but it’s nothing compared to what else these fans have created.

Screenshot courtesy RevanFan.

“My dream, essentially, was to recreate every season in Dallas Cowboys history. That was only possible on the PC version with all the editors we had,” says RevanFan, a user who has been working on a historical Cowboys re-creation for almost three years.

I don't think we'd have so many amazing mods if it weren't for the time EA abandoned the game on the PC.

RevanFan didn’t simply re-create the rosters and call it a day. His Cowboys project is so detailed and meticulously researched that it must rank as one of the most impressive modding feats ever achieved.

“I did tons and tons of research for days and weeks and months, trying to figure out exactly who was on each team each season. Who got cut. Who got injured. I looked through old media guides from the 1960s. I looked through team photos. I tried to figure out what each player looked like. I looked up their stats to sort of figure out how they played. I watched historic videos on them. I tried to get to know each team as well as I could,” RevanFan says.

With the assistance of user 1312ohelet, RevanFan even replicated all 85 of the uniforms the franchise has worn. The uniforms are so detailed that the thickness of the stripes on the pant legs is accurate (for those of you who were worried). As amazing as his project is, it’s almost par for the course in this community.

Users have also added in the CFL (Canadian Football League) and the NCAA Football. Another highlight are the authentic broadcast features the modders included, something Madden 19 doesn’t have. These range from ESPN's Monday Night Football to NBC’s Sunday Night Football. The only thing missing is Carrie Underwood singing the catchy pre-game intro.

“During the 11 year gap, we figured some things out in that time,” Beich says. “We just didn't have anything else on the PC. I don't think we'd have so much, so many amazing mods, if it weren't for the time that EA abandoned the game on the PC.”

Calhoupe’s script program is one of the single greatest things ever made for this community.

“I've witnessed it with my very eyes, them breaking the game more and more every year. It's astonishing what they find,” Austinmario13 recalls.

Football is a team sport and, in this case, modding is too. No one user creates all the content. Every member of Football Idiot has a role. User NickyJ specializes in making updated player portraits. Jaguars fan KeepinItTeal utilizes his skills to make stadiums match their real-life counterparts. Like a solid offensive line, the community plugs gaps where needed. However, there are standouts in the lineup.

If the Football Idiot community is like an NFL team, user Calhoupe would be superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Ask anyone on the forums, and they’ll tell you how much the community owes to Calhoupe. RevanFan certainly agrees.

“If we're talking about mods I personally love, I think that Calhoupe’s script program, that he created, is one of the single greatest things that was ever made for this community. Because it saved the game from being killed by a Windows 10 update.”

No one is getting paid for any of this stuff, this is labor of love kind of stuff.

After a Windows 10 update, receiving a penalty would crash the game. Modding superhero Calhoupe – whose secret identity is mild-mannered computer repairman Peter Calhoun – saved Football Idiot with his modding prowess and a program he created.

“Any of the Madden series is not mod friendly. We don't have any access to [the] source code,” Calhoun tells me. Calhoun’s other responsibility is keeping the game’s rules current. Football has yearly rule changes. From a modding standpoint, this is a pain.

“Every year I have to be like, ‘Ugggh, all right, gotta go fix this.’ With last year [it] was the kickoffs. I had five different things I had to code in there, and none of that was very easy,” Calhoun says.

Calhoun’s day job is fixing computer problems for others. It’s fitting that his role in Football Idiot is similar.

“Again, no one is getting paid for any of this stuff, this is labor of love kind of stuff,” he says.

The constant rule changes are a part of the community’s biggest struggle. Madden 08 is 11-years old and – despite Football Idiot’s best efforts – the game shows its age. The fact that Madden 08 isn’t a great game doesn’t help either.

Screenshot courtesy RevanFan.

“To be honest, it's really not that special of a game. It's not like NHL 94 is being called a perfect game,” Beich says.

No one expected Madden 19 to come out [on PCs].

Old sports titles like NHL 94, NBA Jam, and Tecmo Super Bowl have dedicated online fanbases too, but those games are considered classics. They also don’t have modern counterparts in terms of gameplay. Madden has played (relatively) the same since it went 3D. Why spend years updating a bad game when better versions are available? For some, it’s an issue of money.

“I think cheapness is also part of it. Because, you know [you’d spend] $50, $60 dollars a year for the new edition that comes out every year. Or, you can do the FF Mod and not have to pay a cent after you've bought Madden 08 once,” Beich says.

EA’s treatment of the community is another part of the issue.

“One of the reasons why people wouldn't buy the newer Maddens on consoles is because we thought that EA had abandoned the PC community,” says RevanFan. “We want their sports games on PCs.”

His wish was granted this year. EA called an audible by bringing Madden 19 to the PC. Football Idiot finally has a brand new Madden title to tinker with.

Personally, I will probably never stop playing Madden 08.

“We're definitely at a crossroads,” says Beich. “I can tell you one thing, no one expected Madden 19 to come out [on PCs]. It seemed like every year we'd get, ‘Oh hey, the next Madden is coming onto PCs,’ and then it never happened. But, now it finally did. I think I can see our website becoming half Madden 08, half Madden 19. [It] depends how well Madden 19 goes over with the fans.”

There is a holdout in the group. After sinking 11 years into modding one title, it’s understandable that users are hesitant to move on, especially when you consider that Football Idiot modders will need to start from scratch on Madden 19. EA doesn’t want people modding their sports titles to begin with and purposely make them tough to crack open. These are all reasons why the community could split in half.

“Personally, I will probably never stop playing Madden 08,” says RevanFan. “I have a franchise that's been going on for 54 seasons. I'm not just going to drop that when I get [Madden] 19.”

Maybe, at this rate, if we start modding Madden 19, we can improve what EA has already come up with.

Football fans should hope that they do set their sights on the newest Madden. Look at what the fanbase has accomplished working on a mediocre out-of-date title. Imagine the possibilities if they put the same amount of work into the current installment. Beich has certainly thought about this.

“Maybe, at this rate, if we start modding Madden 19, we can improve what EA has already come up with,” he says.

The Baltimore Marching Colts had to wait 12 years for a football franchise to return to their city. Football Idiot’s fanbase has been waiting 11 years for Madden to return to their computers. In 1996, the NFL returned to Baltimore when the Ravens moved to the city, ending the Marching Colt’s wait. In 2018, EA brought Madden back to PCs. Like the members of the Marching Colts, the wait for Football Idiot users is over.

Madden NFL 08 PC Game
Madden NFL 08 PC Game Download. Madden NFL 08 is a football simulation game developed and published by Electronics Arts, released on August 14, 2007. A greatest change in Madden NFL 08 is the intro of Real Player Motion. This makes the players increasingly controllable and a flick of the sticks can give a difference in speed, cuts and evades on offense and more control on edge side. Players moves and playing styles are presently more apparent. The capacity to control players festivity adds to the good times.

Another great change in Madden NFL 08 comes with the animations. The game developers finally appear to discover how to best exploit the Frostbite engine and resulting in more realistic looking animations. The Madden NFL 08 looks and runs well on PC.

Enhancing animations appear as the greatest step current year's Madden was ready to take, they are appreciated ones and being on PC helps uncover this kind of game to a whole new audience. Madden NFL 08 PC Setup
